Timeless toys - cars

Posted on 29th Nov 2010 @ 1:33 PM

Kids have loved toy vehicles for generations. Ever since the first real motor cars and trucks were produced, children have aspired to own one some day in the future and for many, small replicas were the nearest they would get until they reached adulthood. Almost all of us can recall little die cast toy cars from when we were little. These were made by several manufacturers and came in seemingly endless variety. As well as futuristic designs, there were miniatures of all almost all the full sized makes and models of car at the time. In addition to this, it was possible to collect mini tractors, trucks, milk floats and lorries. For even younger children, there were wooden toy vehicles which contained fewer small parts and could withstand rough play. These toys are still available today.

Remote control toy cars were once very much in vogue with girls and boys of all ages, and soon there were racing tracks designed to allow specially made cars to compete. While these toys provided hours of entertainment for children and adults alike, they still seemed like a poor imitation of the genuine article. Initially ride on cars were almost all powered in the same way as push bikes, and pedal powered vehicles of all kinds were popular with little tots. Many parents still choose to purchase these kinds of toy vehicles today, as they are good exercise and great fun. However, just as real motor vehicle technology has moved with the times, children’s cars have come on in leaps and bounds.

Electric car toys are now available in all sorts of designs, and some models are increasingly affordable. These cars, which are available in 6v, 12v and 24v options, really give kids a chance to experience being in control of a realistic alternative to the real thing. Learning to steer and carefully control electric car toys can be very beneficial, helping a child to learn about their coordination, their sense of direction and their the world around them. It goes without saying that children playing with electric car toys need adult supervision at all times, though this does not have to be a chore; watching a youngster pick up new skills and become adept in controlling their car is a joy.

Those considering purchasing electric car toys as a gift for Christmas or a birthday are not wrong in assuming that these toys are great fun, but must also check product details carefully. Some models will be too big or strong for very young children, and some smaller models may not provide the same amount of enjoyment as powerful ones as time goes by. Electric car toys are gaining in popularity as more and more families see how much they are appreciated as gifts. In the run up to the Christmas season you may be comparing several potential high tech gifts for the little person in your life. Whilst games consoles are as fashionable as ever, electric toy cars should be in the running as they can be used outdoors, helping to provide fresh air and exercise.
